Hey there — I started ByteLevelTech because I remember what it feels like to be completely lost.
A few years ago I decided to learn some tech skills. I didn't have a CS degree. I just had a laptop, an internet connection, and a lot of questions that Google couldn't always answer in a way that made sense. Every tutorial seemed to assume I already knew five other things I'd never heard of.
So I did what a lot of people do: I struggled through it. I broke things. I fixed them. I wrote down what worked so I wouldn't forget.
This blog is basically those notes, cleaned up and shared.
What you'll find here
I cover four areas that I've personally spent time on:
- AI tools — How to actually use ChatGPT, Claude, and other tools to get stuff done. Not hype, just practical tips.
- Linux basics — Terminal commands, server setup, Ubuntu tips. The things I wish someone had shown me on day one.
- Python automation — Small scripts that save time. Renaming files, scraping data, sending notifications.
- Budget tech projects — DIY server hosting, building websites on the cheap, making old hardware useful again.
A few things about this site
It's built from scratch using Python and runs on a small VPS in Hong Kong. No WordPress, no fancy CMS — just Markdown files, a bit of code, and Nginx. I built it partly to learn how websites actually work under the hood.
The design borrows from Apple's style because I like clean typography and lots of whitespace. If something looks broken, it's probably my fault — I'm still learning.
No ads yet. When (if) I add them, they'll be minimal. I use GoatCounter for analytics — it's a lightweight, privacy-friendly tool that doesn't track you across the web.
Who this is for
If you're someone who wants to learn tech skills but doesn't know where to start — you're exactly who I'm writing for. No assumptions, no gatekeeping.
If you already know this stuff, you might find the tutorials too basic. That's okay. There are plenty of advanced blogs out there.
